Wycheproof is a small town located in the north-western part of Victoria, Australia. It is situated approximately 220 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, and is part of the Shire of Buloke. The town has a rich history, dating back to the 1800s when European settlers first arrived in the area.

Indigenous History

The Wycheproof area has a long and rich history of Indigenous occupation. The traditional owners of the land are the Wergaia people, who have lived in the area for thousands of years. They were semi-nomadic people who lived off the land, hunting and gathering food.

European Settlement

The first European settlers arrived in the Wycheproof area in the 1840s. They were mainly pastoralists who established sheep and cattle stations in the area. The town of Wycheproof was established in the 1870s as a result of the construction of the railway line.

Railway History
